Cosmic answer

Cosmic answer

Exhibition Mother Earth (with Milda Dainovskyte) in Artifex gallery,
Vilnius, Lithuania.

2016 04 14–30

Our eyes are turning down to earth, to our feet while installing two rooms concentrated on one‘s own therapy and experience. The popular and banal phrase serves us as a field of different topics such as stereotypes of nature, gender roles, paganism, ecology, space age, power of nature, matriarchy of the past, Unicef, nationalism and hippies.

Works of mine analyse earth in means of territories that are hard to understand, explore and that are highly mystified – cosmos. The artefacts of astrology and astronomy intertwine referring to the stereotypes of gender perception – analysing yourself, the ground under your feet and looking far ahead, to the sky. Blurred magazines of spiritual health talk about the mystic nature of women, teach about understanding the inner self and the universe while Apollo missions just explore it. Metal stick with a golden foil used for spacecrafts resembles a coat hanger but also becomes a metaphor for luxury or fancy apparel. The moon becomes the goal of science and the reason of karma while the key to the answers drowns in immanent waiting.

Collective work of both authors – a banner – transforms into a scuplture-object and the classic symbol of Mother Earth creates reversed meanings.
